Introduction
Zuerchermyia is a replacement name Woodley (2001) made for Zuercheria, which was preoccupied. Zuerchermyia is predominantly found in tropical South America, with Z. bequaerti native to Mexico and Central America (Woodley 2001). The larvae of Zuerchermyia are found in tree holes, and it is likely that the genus specializes on this microhabitat (Yanoviak 2001).
