Introduction
There are 25 species of Psellidotus native to the Neotropical region, 18 to the Nearctic, and 3 are shared between the two regions. The species were previously erroneously placed in the genus Labostigmina until it was synonymized with Psellidotus (Woodley 2001).
Characteristics
Psellidotus is distinguished from other Nearctic Stratiomyini by the spined scutellum with the spines approximated, the antenna with five flagellomeres without forming a stylus, the antenna flagellum cylindrical, the face produced or tuberculate, and the head not wider than the thorax (James 1981).
