Introduction
Gowdeyana is a predominantly Neotropical genus. The range of G. albipilosa extends north to Arizona and G. punctifera can be found throughout the United States east of the Rocky Mountains and into northern Mexico. G. punctifera can be found flying in compact swarms, presumably to mate (Woodley 2001).
Characteristics
Gowdeyana can be distinguished from other Nearctic Pachygastrinae by the following characteristics: Antenna inserted at middle of head in lateral view; scutellum strongly convex above in lateral view, with wide posterior rim; sides of scutum with flattened hairs; R4 and R5 separate (James 1981).
