Introduction
The genus Eumaeus contains large, tailless species with rounded, mainly black wings and brightly-colored abdomens. The larvae feed on Zamia and other cycads, which likely provide toxic alkaloids that the butterflies use for chemical defense. Eumaeus species range from southern Florida to the Amazon region, including one Cuban endemic.
