Brassolis
Andrew V. Z. BrowerThis tree diagram shows the relationships between several groups of organisms.
The root of the current tree connects the organisms featured in this tree to their containing group and the rest of the Tree of Life. The basal branching point in the tree represents the ancestor of the other groups in the tree. This ancestor diversified over time into several descendent subgroups, which are represented as internal nodes and terminal taxa to the right.

close boxIntroduction
A neotropical genus. The larvae of Brassolis spp. are gregarious and can be pests of coconut and other palms. Adults have vestigial proboscides and do not feed during their short adult life span (< two weeks) (Garzón-Orduña & Penz 2009).Discussion of Phylogenetic Relationships
The topology is Fig. 6 from Garzón-Orduña & Penz (2009), based on a cladistic analysis of 57 characters from adult morphology. They found that Brassolis sophorae is polymorphic for many character states, and when its subspecies are treated as separate taxa that the terminals occur in three paraphyletic clusters with other species embedded among them, suggesting that perhaps "B. sophorae" as currently circumscribed represents several distinct species.References
