Resources for Learning About the Evolutionary History (Phylogeny) of the Earth's Organisms
The entire ToL site is a resource for learning about evolution, but perhaps the best way to get an introduction to phylogeny is to start with the root of all Life on Earth and move out along diverging branches to individual species. Browsing the site in this way will show that ToL pages are linked one to another hierarchically, in the form of the evolutionary tree of life, and that the structure of the ToL project thus illustrates the genetic connections between all living things. In order to do this, follow some of the suggested routes for exploring the ToL in the Take a Ride Through the Tree of Life page.
The ToL also has a section on phylogenetic biology that will introduce you to important concepts.
We plan to develop activities that will help you learn about phylogeny and how the Tree of Life is organized by the genetic connections among all living things on Earth.
A great place to visit for lesson plans specifically on phylogeny is the site Understanding Evolution.
