Cephalopoda Glossary


This hypothetical cephalopod demostrates some of the common terminology associated with various structures. Especially note the following:

Tentacular club with

  • a broad (expanded) manus.
  • trabeculate protective membranes on manus.
  • armature in four series.
  • hooks in one of the series.
  • a dorsal keel on the dactylus.
  • carpal-locking apparatus of suckers and knobs.
Head with
  • right eye without a cornea ("oegopsid eye").
  • left eye with a cornea ("myopsida eye").
