Cephalopoda Glossary
The armature of the arms consists of suckers only or suckers and/or hooks. The number of series of armature along the arm varies between families. The illustration on the right shows some of the main variation in this armature. A - Shows the armature in 4 series with suckers in the marginal series and hooks, covered by sheaths, in the medial series. B - Shows an irregular arrangement near the base but 6 series throughout the remainder of the arm. C - Shows a biserial arrangement at the arm base becoming an irregular 4 series distally. D - Shows a biserial arrangement throughout with suckers proximally, followed by hooks with suckers again distally.
