Scea angustimargo
James S. Miller and Andrew V. Z. BrowerIntroduction
Scea angustimargo is one of the only representatives of its genus whose range extends from the Andes into the lowlands of southeastern South America, with its type locality in Paraguay. It is apparently rather scarce (larvae unknown, few specimens scattered among the world's museums), and Miller's dissections suggest that Bolivian specimens identified as this species probably belong to a distinct taxon (Miller 2009).Characteristics
Scea angustimargo may be distinguished from other members of the genus by the narrow orange stripe on the anterior margin of the hindwing, which it shares only with S. torrida, found on the Amazonian slopes of Ecuador. Miller (2009) considers these two species to be sister taxa based on this feature, as well as large, bulging eyes and characters of the male genitalia (long, forked vesica).References
