Mesosemiini

This tree diagram shows the relationships between several groups of organisms.

The basal branching point in the tree represents the ancestor of the other groups in the tree. A neotropical tribe, recently revised by Hall (2003). Larvae of Mesosemiina feed mainly on Rubiaceae, while those of Napaeina feed only on Bromeliaceae and Orchidaceae (Hall, 2005).Characteristics
According to Hall (2005), most Mesosemiina exhibit forewing "eyespots" near the apex of the discal cell, while the wing patterns of Napaeina are composed mostly of small spots or speckles (although some are evidently mimetic of ithomiine butterflies (Nymphalidae) or pericopine moths (Erebiidae: Arctiinae).Discussion of Phylogenetic Relationships
