Introduction
A small tribe with an unusual disjunct distribution: Heliophorus occurs in the Palearctic and Oriental regions, while Melanolycaena is endemic to New Guinea and the monotypic Iophanus is from Central America.
Characteristics
Bozano & Weidenhoffer (2001) state that this tribe is characterized by the male foretarsus ending in a blunt, rounded point and the male genitalia with the lobes of the uncus short, with a wide base and pointed apex.
