Cleptophasia
Cleptophasia scissa described in Oricia Walker
James S. Miller and Andrew V. Z. BrowerIntroduction
A monotypic genus restricted to lowland neotropical forests from Venezuela, the Guiana Shield, and Amazonian Brazil. Immature stages are unknown, but Miller (2009) hypothesizes that larvae may be associated with host plants in Violales, such as Rinorea or Hybanthus.
Characteristics
Cleptophasia scissa is superficially similar to members of its sister genus Scotura, with similar wing patterns and yellow head. However, the forewing discal cell in this genus extends more than half way to the wing margin, while in Scotura the discal cell is relatively short. The yellow wedge-shaped transverse forewing band and mostly yellow hindwing are useful diagnostic features (Miller, 2009).References
