Cladiopsocidae

Emilie Bess and Kevin P. Johnson
Containing group: Epipsocetae

Introduction

Cladiopsocidae includes two genera.  The genus Cladiopsocus (16 species) is known from Angola and from Central and South America.  Spurostigma (11 species) is known from Central and South America.

Family Monophyly

Recent morphological studies of the family Cladiopsocidae suggest that it is not monophyletic (Yoshizawa 2002, Casasola-Gonzalez 2006).  Morphological study by Casasola-Gonzalez (2006) indicate that the genera Spurostigma and Cladiopsocus belong in distinct families: Spurostigmatidae and Cladiopsocidae.

Discussion of Phylogenetic Relationships

The genera Spurostigma and Cladiopsocus have not yet been included in molecular studies.

This page is a Tree of Life Branch Page.

Each ToL branch page provides a synopsis of the characteristics of a group of organisms representing a branch of the Tree of Life. The major distinction between a branch and a leaf of the Tree of Life is that each branch can be further subdivided into descendent branches, that is, subgroups representing distinct genetic lineages.

For a more detailed explanation of the different ToL page types, have a look at the Structure of the Tree of Life page.
